Alvin H. Zito
Vice President, Safety, Certification and Compliance
Al Zito is Vice President of Safety, Certification and Compliance at JDA Aviation Technology Solutions. Mr. Zito spent 26 years at the FAA in the Field, Regional and Washington headquarters. He worked in myriad technical and management positions.
For eight years, he was the Air Carrier Operations Inspector, Principal Operations Inspector (POI) for USAir Part 121 air carrier certificate. He helped develop and implement the first Cockpit Resource Management Program with USAir. He also developed and implemented the "Mirror Image" merger process with USAir's acquisition of PSA and Piedmont Airlines, effectively accomplishing the largest air carrier merger in aviation history.
Mr. Zito established several programs for USAir-including the USAir Altitude Awareness Program, Maintenance Resource Management Program, Cabin Safety Review Committee, Comprehensive Surveillance/Inspection Assessment Program and Three-Point Program. He also successfully transitioned US Airways from a conventional FAR Part 121 air carrier into an Air Transportation Oversight System (ATOS) using the system safety approach.
Mr. Zito developed the first National Geographic Training Course for FAA air carrier surveillance. He also developed and delivered unique air carrier field training courses for inspectors and members of foreign Civil Aviation Authorities.
At the U.S. Army Research and Development Command, Mr. Zito was an Operations Officer and Fixed Wing Standardization Instructor Pilot. For the Maryland Army National Guard, he served as Assistant Aviation Officer and Fixed Wing Instructor Pilot.
Mr. Zito holds the following licenses and certifications:
- ATP Multi-Engine Land and Rotorcraft Helicopter with type ratings in the B-737, BA-111, CE-500, BH-204
- Commercial Privileges, Airplane Single Engine Land
- Certified Flight Instructor Airplane, Single-Engine Multi-Engine, Rotorcraft Helicopter, Instrument Airplane and Helicopter
- Class II Medical Certificate
- Mr. Zito holds a degree in mathematics from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
