Former National Transportation Safety Board member John Goglia will address the class of 2009 at SUNYIT's 35th annual spring commencement on Saturday, May 9. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. in the Utica Memorial Auditorium. A reception for graduates and their guests will be held in the Campus Center following the ceremony.
While on the NTSB, Goglia distinguished himself in numerous areas of transportation safety. He chaired the NTSB's public hearings on the 1996 crash of ValuJet Flight 592 in the Florida Everglades.
Prior to his NTSB service, Goglia held numerous positions in the airline industry and was involved for more than 20 years as a union flight safety representative on accident investigation teams. For 12 years, he operated his own aircraft service company. He now serves as vice president for aviation operations and safety programs at JDA Aviation Technology Solutions in Washington, D.C.
