FAA Administrator Names Del Balzo to Major Advisory Committee

Washington, DC - Joe Del Balzo, founder and president of JDA Aviation Technology Solutions, has been selected by Robert Sturgell, Acting Administrator of the FAA, for membership on the agency's Research, Engineering and Development Advisory Committee. In addition, Del Balzo who also once served as Acting Administrator of the FAA, was chosen by Sturgell to chair the key Aircraft Safety Subcommittee.

The advisory committee provides FAA with advice and recommendations on the needs, objectives, plans, approaches, content, and accomplishments of the aviation research program. The committee helps ensure that FAA research is coordinated with similar research conducted outside the agency.

Prior to establishing JDA Aviation Technology Solutions, Del Balzo was a top executive at the FAA. In addition to serving as Acting Administrator and Acting Deputy Administrator, his career at the agency included stints as Executive Director of Systems Operations, Executive Director for Systems Development, Director of the agency's Technical Center and Director of FAA's Eastern Region.

He is a Fellow of the America Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics; a former member of the Board of Directors and former Chairman of the Air Traffic Control Association; a former member of the Civil Tilt-Rotor Advisory Committee; and former member of the Board of Directors of Weather Information Technologies, Inc.
