Regulatory Affairs Training

A one-of-a-kind, two-day training course focused on expanding the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulatory affairs knowledge for commercial aviation personnel.

Regulatory Affairs Class

Regulatory Affairs Training for US Airways personnel.

This highly interactive Regulatory Affairs Training Course will ensure that you are knowledgeable of:

  1. FAA Flight Standards organization and function of different departments.
  2. FAA CMO organization, duties, and responsibilities. The functions of FAA CMO positions such as Principal Inspectors, Partial Program Managers, and Assistant Managers.
  3. Inspection programs and inspector criteria, i.e., surveillance, investigation, complaints, incidents, etc.
  4. Inspector methods and how to address them.
  5. Inspector authority and limits.
  6. Steps for establishing new relationship with the FAA CMO:
    • Procedures for checking in and out at your facilities
    • Inspector in briefing and out briefing
    • Inspector access to facilities, equipment, records and personnel
    • Inspector badges
  7. Actions and timeframe for implementing new operating procedures
    • Data to collect
    • Standardized reports
    • Other line stations and facilities
  8. Introduction of new procedures to FAA CMO and anticipating FAA reaction.
  9. FAA investigation process and expected Company response.
  10. Research resources for FAA regulations, handbooks, policy letters, etc.
  11. What to look for in an internal investigation as a result of an FAA Letter of Investigation (LOI) and how to respond to an FAA LOI using actual ongoing cases.
  12. When and how to tell the FAA that you disagree with allegations and how to respond accordingly.
  13. Procedure (when and how) for elevating an issue to higher authority.

Participants will receive a USB drive of course reference material, FAA resources and a JDA-developed regulatory affairs SOP manual. Upon completion, a Certificate of Regulatory Affairs Training will be supplied.

Who Should Attend?

Any operator representative that interfaces with the FAA; if you communicate, meet or do business with inspectors or other FAA officials, or are involved in the LOC & LOI process, you should not miss this course. If your job does not involve communication with the FAA, but you are still required to follow and be well versed in FAA structure and regulation, you will benefit from this course. Class attendance is limited to 25.

Johnny Pool

  • 38 years aviation and FAA experience involved in regulatory control and oversight.
  • FAA Assistant Division Manager for Flight Standards Southwest Region, responsible for thirteen Flight Standards District Offices and the regional Branch Manager.
  • Responsible for the oversight of Federal Aviation Regulation compliance and certification of several major airlines, repair facilities, and airmen.
  • International Field Office (IFO) at DFW Airport, responsible for regulatory oversight of all Mexican air carriers flying into the United States and for all U.S. certificated repair stations in Mexico.
  • FAA Office Manager for the AMR Certificate Management Office (CMO) and Continental Airlines CMO.
  • Principal Avionics Inspector for Continental Airlines and Continental Express.

Mike Colin

  • 37 years aviation and FAA experience in aviation maintenance
  • Supervisory Principal Aviation (Airworthiness) Safety Inspector (PAI) working with PMI's and POI's and overseeing the activities of teams of avionics safety inspectors and partial program managers (PPM's.) Directed the certification, surveillance and investigation activities of PPM's
  • Regulatory Affairs (RA) interface with senior executives of two major Airlines in the Southwest Region.

Due to the on-line interactive nature of the course, participants are required to bring a laptop computer with Wi-Fi capabilities. All course materials will be supplied by JDA.
